Meeting Notes for Terry's First Meeting!!

CROW’S CALL - July 8, 2021

Itttttt’s SHOWTIME!!!!

Yes, you heard it. We met at the Growler for President Showtime Koehne’s inaugural meeting! After a ton of socializing that was severely missed over the last year, Rotarians crawled out of the woodworks to usher in our new President. Even Past President John Milich made an appearance! We got our buffet lunch in the bar room, and headed back to our outside tables for the meeting start.

Clad in a loud, Giants-themed Hawaiian shirt, complete with sunglasses on his head, boat shoes on his feet, and a classic Terry mustache, our new President posed for the camera. After ringing the “beer bell”, he almost retched as he began his first meeting. Our Rotary International President is Shekhar Mehta, and this year’s theme is “Serve to Change Lives”.

Twice Past President Chris Gallagher greeted us with a couple quotes, including one that went something like, “You can’t lose control if you don’t have it.” After the pledge and a hearty group welcome, Chris started his personal greeter update with the news that he was President last year.

Chris installed Mr. Terry Koehne, who looked nervous and then relieved upon hearing his President name. Someone shared this joke (I don’t remember who, but it must have been Terry, as he’s king of bad jokes - just kidding, your jokes are great ): An officer says, “You have the right to remain silent”, and the person responds, “I know, sir, but I don’t have the ability.” Most people laughed.

Showtime Koehne then installed this year’s board, giving us each a mini bottle of Ruby Hill wine and a pin.

Staying true to his Catholic guilt, President Showtime started his term by apologizing for the long email he had sent. After thanking Tracy from Triple Elegance, who will be catering our lunches moving forward, he shared a super interesting anecdote about Stacey King, who played alongside Michael Jordan when he scored a game-high 69 points:

When interviewed by a reporter about what it was like to play alongside MJ during that game, Stacey quipped "I'll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined to score 70 points." So basically, Terry was telling us that we all have to score 69 points this year, and he will add 1. We’re off to a great start!!

The District 5160 mantra for this year is “Each one, bring one”. We’re focusing on membership, which means that Chris Gayler will actually have to start doing some work. Also, Alan Love and Michael Roberts were presented with their blue badges! Congratulations!!

Announcements included:

  • The District Conference is happening at Squaw Creek this year from Oct 29-31.

  • Colette Lay received a thank you letter for a donation we had made of PPE and fitness equipment. Great work, Rotarians!

Terrific job, Koehne!
