Our President, Lady Grizzly, a.k.a. Colette Lay, started the meeting by reminding us that Mark Daniel Maloney from Decatur, Alabama is this year’s Rotary International President. The theme is “Rotary Connects the World” - but as President Lay noted - not in person, only by computer for now. Gary Sloan was the greeter, whose Thought of the Day was incredibly long (surprise, surprise), and consisted of the “All I Really Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten” rules, with commentary on how they applied in today’s world of COVID-19.
After the flag salute, and a reciting of the four way test, Gary Sloan did not give a greeters profile. Probably because the Thought of the Day exhausted his vocal chords.
GUESTS
Angela Kan, the Interact Project Coordinator, joined us. As well as returning guest Aruna Somani, who announced she is applying for membership.
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Unfortunately, this segment was dominated about cancelled events. Rather than list them all, consider all future events cancelled until April. Keep your eye on announcements from President Lay.
The other announcement was that PE Chris Gallagher completed his PETS training and is apparently qualified to take the reins on July 1.
PROGRAM
This week’s speaker was International Bestselling Author Tim Tigner. Tim began his career in Soviet Counterintelligence with the US Army Special Forces, the Green Berets. That was back in the Cold War days when, "We learned Russian so you didn't have to," something he did at the Presidio of Monterey alongside Recon Marines and Navy SEALs.
Tim has an impressive and interesting background, and you can read it on his website at
www.timtigner.com. On that site you can see his 11 bestselling books.
Tim shared with us his journey to becoming an author. He encouraged people to ask themselves “what do I like to do most?”, and then pursue that as a career. For Tim, the answer was “reading a good thriller”, so he spent years navigating the ups and downs of making that into a reality.
RECOGNITIONS
Steven Porschet celebrated his 28th birthday by attending our meeting, and enjoying (enduring?) a round of “Happy Birthday” in his honor. It was sung slowly just as you are supposed to do when you wash your hands. He was recognized $92 for being born in 1992.
Glen and Ginny Weber will celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary on March 30th. Plans are TBD.
Lourdes Ylagan is celebrating a birthday on March 23rd.
RAFFLE
John Tatum was the greeters gift, and Mike Thelan pulled a blue marble. The pot is now up to $300.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
