Weekly Program
Meeting Notes by Julie McKinney!

President Michael “Seabiscuit” Roberts opened the meeting by reminding us this year’s RI President is Jennifer Jones, and the theme is “Imagine Rotary”.  November is Rotary Foundation Month.

Quote for the day: “The best teachers are those that show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see.”
We had one very welcome repeat guest, William Harlan who accompanied his dad, Dr. Bill Harlan.

AUCTION RESULTS
Total raised was $54,474, well above the $50,000 goal! Auction Coordinator, Terry Koehne, presented four awards:
Karen McNamara - the Rotarian whose auction item commanded the most money.
Judy Lewis - Rotarian who contributed the most auction items to the cause (mostly wine!).
Gary Sloan - for bringing in more than $30,000 in sponsorships.
Judy Denning (technically only a Visiting Rotarian, for now!) - for inputting all the items and keeping everything organized.
Norbert Walz - for being the GLUE and keeping it all together!

SERVICE PROJECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Our first annual Tree of Remembrance project needs volunteers to fill time slots. Kathy Gailey has been hard at work organizing this project. Your help is needed to fill shifts! Please click this link to sign up.
Karen McNamara announced in honor of a long tradition of our Club, started by Horace and Peggy Crawford, we will be collecting $25.00 gift cards to Target or Safeway to distribute to the clients at Trinity Center on Friday, December 16 @ 1pm.  All members are welcome to join.  There are usually about 100 clients who receive the gift cards.  They especially appreciate those since they can purchase what they need.  Cards and items will be collected between December 1 and December 15.  You can bring cards to our December meetings, or easily purchase Target gift cards online and Safeway gift cards online, both with free delivery. Contact Karen if you choose to have them mailed.
Karen also announced a service opportunity in conjunction with Dougherty Valley and San Ramon Valley Rotary clubs to support the One Warm Coat Drive. Click here for more information and to sign up. This event takes place on Tuesday November 29th.

RECOGNITIONS AND HAPPY DOLLARS
Two member birthdays: Karen McNamara shared she was turning 39 again.  Carolyn Degnan was going to celebrate by seeing a movie (in a movie theater) for the first time in many years! Happiest of birthday wishes to you both!
Terry Koehne was happy to announce that his daughter Rachel passed her final, got through the grueling 32 days of flight attendant training, and received her wings with Skywest Airlines! As a bonus she will be based out of San Francisco, much to the delight of her parents.  She will start flying in the next couple weeks.
Patti Hennigan shared the good news that her second grandbaby has arrived.
Julie McKinney is looking forward to her daughter Sydney, a junior at Colorado State, coming home for Thanksgiving break. Since she hardly receives any phone calls from Sydney anymore, Julie’s looking forward to hearing just what the heck her daughter has been doing the last three months.

FOUNDATION NEWS
Dr. Glen Weber announced District 5160 implemented a Polio Warrior position to work with Club Foundation Chairs. The purpose is to lessen the workload and provide timely data on what is happening specifically with Poliomyelitis. Dr. Weber was tasked with appointing a Polio Warrior for our club but alas, none could be found.  So, he became the Polio Warrior as well. Please contact Glen if you are interested in helping with this position.
