CROW’S CALL - October 28, 2021

By Priya Jhingan

Showtime Terry Koehne was actually present and not in Mexico for this meeting. What a treat for us all! To start the meeting, he presented our greeter of the day as the “lovely and beautiful” Guy Greco, who shared this thought:

“Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes playing a poor hand well” Guy, I love this quote! Mr. Greco then mentioned that he’s been a member of Rotary for decades, and was President of our club in 2002. His entire family are also members of the foundation. A true Rotarian clan! He then led us into the flag salute.

We had one visiting Rotarian, Judy from the Rotary Club of San Rafael. She was President of her club from 2004-2005, and is currently Treasurer, but recently moved to San Ramon and has been scoping out local clubs.

Terry continued the meeting by bragging about how he was in 93 degree weather in Cabo, while the rest of us were being drenched in rain in California. He then presented September’s Rotary theme of the month, even though this meeting happened at the end of October.

Maria Cooper, from Danville Sycamore, has offered to come in and provide hybrid services for our meetings going forward. A reminder that if you’d like to join in person, send a picture of your proof of vaccination to Terry!

Announcements and club business included:

  • Our biggest fundraiser of the year (Online Auction for Education) happened November 1-9. Sunny Walz gave us the update. We had 130 items compared to 140 last year. Cash donations are just a tad short of where we were last year.

  • Chris Gallager is starting a SRR Bollywood dance team. Send him your audition video if you’re interested in joining.

  • There was a 680 club event last week - Geoff Dish and Michael Roberts went. Geoff learned more about polio.

  • Julie McKinney shared that the Veterans Day lunch has been postponed to 2022, due to constraints at San Ramon Regional with the current status of things.

  • Cooking with Fred Happy Hour is postponed to February 2022 and the theme will be a Valentines dish. Also, stay tuned for updates on the holiday party!

  • New fundraiser! Chris Gallagher shared an update on the Fashion Show that’s happening in Spring 2022. With raffle sales, ticket sales, and sponsors, we hope to raise some good money!

  • Vanessa Berastain was just selected as San Ramon Citizen of the Year. The dinner will be in December; let Terry know if you want to join a Rotary table. Woohoo!

Birthday and anniversary recognitions included:

(Not a whole lot of births in late September / early October)

  • Maverick, Top Gun’s dog, was having a birthday soon. Chris will send us all party details (it will be a Bollywood-themed party).

  • National First Responders Day was in late October - Alan Love, thank you for your service!

Terry ended our meeting with some short anecdotal clips:

  • A SNL skit of a recent school board meeting he attended.

  • His synchronized swimming choreo from Cabo, with music from Benny Hill!

    • Fun fact: the guy in the back got a gold in the ‘76 Olympics

    • Note to Terry: get your TikTok started with this video :)

That was it for this meeting. If you have any questions on our club’s meeting schedule, please message or call Showtime Koehne.

Happy autumn!
