Meeting Notes September 23, 2021

“Show Time” Terry Koehne virtually called us to order.  He then administered the Motto Quiz, where we have to remember the various Words of Wisdom that govern our actions. (It’s “Serve to Change” at the international level and “Reconnecting – Back Together Again” at the club level; nominations are open for any additional mottos you might fancy.) The Greeter, the elusive Dennis Garrison, thrilled us with the Flag Salute and Thought for the Day from the book “Never Wrestle with a Pig” – something about people who count on luck. It was not memorable, but you have to love the source.  Garrison filled us in on all the tribulations of operating sports clubs in a pandemic.  “I run the mask and vaccine mandates, so people feel free to come and dump on me.  It’s a living.”
Show Time announced that we were dropping the Welcome Song, “Arriba, Abajo, A Centro, A Dentro…Bienvenidos,” since he lacks the teaching credential necessary to do it properly.  He then told an inappropriate joke about old men and their bodily functions, which this correspondent did not find amusing.  He did exhort us to be open to change, probably not a good sign.

Announcements:
Our On-Line auction is slated for November 1 –9.  Get donations to Norbert Walz.

The San Ramon Historic Foundation is doing an Oktoberfest fund-raiser on October 2, featuring brats and beers from five local breweries; they could use some volunteers to help.  Karen McNamara has the details.\

The Run for Education is October 9 and 10.  Rotary will have a table to share with participants news about our club.  We need volunteers to talk.  You can check out other jobs and sign up at  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b4faeaa28a0f49-health2 or check with Terry.

Speaking of getting all sweaty, the “Amazing Race” scheduled for downtown Danville on World Polio Day (October 24) has been postponed until spring. But do check out the beer and brats at the Growler during Danville’s outdoor event.

District Conference is still scheduled for October 29 – 31 at Tahoe.  Check out the video about the event, titled “Back to the Future” on the District webpage. Be prepared to weep.

The Foundation Board is meeting on September 29. Feel free to attend. Karen McNamara has details.

Recognitions:
Terry Koehne confessed to having a birthday and paid.
Steven Porschet is going to Las Vegas to see his brother married by an Elvis impersonator who also does autographs.
Michael Roberts and Alan Love both celebrated anniversaries and paid.

More Mandate News:
The San Ramon Community Center now requires we have proof of vaccination before we can enter.  Terry asks that we send a photo of our shot record to him so he can put together a spreadsheet.
Check out the club’s Facebook page and post information.

Remember the Club’s motto for membership – “Each one bring one.” I knew we’d get another motto.

Judy Lewis has two cases of wine for the auction and doesn’t know what to do with them.  Volunteers stepped forward.

The next meeting is October 7, 2021.
