Dr. John Malloy
State of the Schools

Dr. John Malloy became Superintendent of the  San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) in August 2020 after having served as the Director of Education (Superintendent) at the Toronto District School Board in Toronto, Canada, which is the largest School Board in Canada and the eighth largest School Board in North America. Dr. Malloy has an extensive background in education at all levels and is a fierce advocate for an equitable, accessible, quality public education. Dr. Malloy joined the San Ramon Valley Unified School District in the height of the pandemic. He was immediately charged with leading the District of more than 30,000 students through one of the most challenging times in education in recent history. Under John’s leadership, throughout the pandemic, districts looked to SRVUSD as a leader in providing thoughtful solutions that were student-focused. Despite ever-changing circumstances and ongoing financial challenges, Dr. Malloy partnered with his staff, parents, students and the community to come up with creative solutions to complex issues. While focused on the day-to-day operations, Dr. Malloy recognized the need to strategically plan for the future, as well. Anticipating that the pandemic would have profound implications on the education community, Dr. Malloy led his team in the development of a long-term strategic plan. This comprehensive document is a plan to direct the work of the SRVUSD for the next three to five years beginning in the 2021-22 school year. The plan is aligned with six strategic directions and contains specific goals to clarify purpose and desired outcomes for students. Dr. Malloy’s commitment to the belief that every student deserves a great education and that we have a responsibility to ensure that students feel connected and engaged in their learning drives his work. He remains committed to the principle that with strategic allocation of both human and financial resources, we can support student needs and ensure that all schools offer a wide range of programming that reflects the voices, choices, abilities, identities and experiences of all students. In addition to his work locally, Dr. Malloy remains committed to improving public education on a broader level. He is involved in several statewide and nationwide organizations dedicated to improving public education and supporting strong public education leaders. You can follow John on Twitter @malloy_john.
