The Crow’s Call for February 15, 2018 by Tom Port

Preliminaries:

A large group was in attendance for our Valentine’s Day sit down luncheon as Lucky called us to order with the reminder that R. I. President is H. S. Riseley of Victoria, Australia, and his theme for the year is “Rotary Making a Difference”.
Anurag Singh was our Greeter and he advised: “You can’t know where you are unless you know how far you have come”.  Anurag is glad to be with us despite some health issues.
The Patriotic Song was led by Mike Thelen: “God Bless America”.

To set the right mood for the celebration, while the group chomped on delicious raspberry vinaigrette salads, (I wont mention the rubber chicken) Chris Gallagher presented a beautiful red rose to each of the Valentine’s Day spouses of members.
Valentine’s Day Introductions: Members introduced their Valentines for the day, spouses, actually.  Ann Tontz, Ann Patterson, Cindy Toby, Mary Greco, and Judy Thomas. The Pattersons were singled out for special recognition of their 60 years together, and the former First Lady was awarded her two sapphire Paul Harris pin.

Club Matters and Announcements:
Student Of the Month: Jillian Weber was presented with the Student of the Month award by her drama coach at Cal. High, Laura Woods. Jillian has won recognition as an outstanding actress and is President of her Drama Club. She is also on the Board of Interact. She has applied to UCLA for next year. She undoubtedly has a very bright future, and we wish her all the best.
Interact: Athena announced their February 18 food drive and March 10 Crab Feed fundraiser.
Recognitions: Patti Hennigan (birthday), Stacy Literal (anniversary) and Ed Duarte (for Linda’s birthday) were recognized for $40.00 each.

Member’s Night Out: Kathy Gailey announced a Member’s Night Out at Worth Ranch Wednesday at 5:50 P.M.

Board Matters: There will be a Strategic Planning session after next Thursday’s meeting.

VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY: As attendees enjoyed their chocolate moose torts Chris Gallagher, as Master of Ceremonies, was in his usual great form as he entertained with trivia about famous lines from movies and popular songs. There was no formal competition, and fortunately no records were kept, but a great time was had by all.
The party was concluded with a group photo.

Raffle: Gobind Anand won the Greeter’s Gift and Mike Thelen won a shot at the Progressive prize. No luck Though.
